CAIRO – November 14, 2020: Acclaimed Egyptian director Mohamed Dian will helm Marvel Studios’ Disney series ‘Moon Knight’.

“Moon Knight” which stars Oscar Isaac revolves around Marc Spector, an ex-Marine turned mercenary whose multiple alter egos allow him to better fight crime.

Diab is a director and screenwriter keen to focus on critical political and social issues in Egyptian society.

He presented his first film “El Gezeira” (The Island) in 2007.

It revolved around the life of a drug trafficker and the lord of an island in Upper Egypt.

The inhabitants of the island grow drugs. The film was based on a true life story of an Upper Egyptian drug trafficker named Ezzat Hanafy.

In 2014 he released the second part of the film.

A month before the January 25 revolution, Diab released his film “Cairo 678”. This time, these are the names of a bus that witnessed the sexual harassment of several women.

This important film was considered one of the most awarded films in Egypt.

Cairo 678 has been described by The New York Times as an unmistakable harbinger of revolution.

Renowned Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho tweeted about the film calling it brilliant, saying it should be compulsory for men, regardless of religion or culture, to watch it.

Diab was one of the main participants in the January revolution. Diab decided to make a film about the revolution, “Eshtebak” took 5 years to make, and it was released in 2016.

Diab’s film addressed many issues that began with the January 2011 revolution.

“Eshtebak” (Clash) has won numerous awards and brought attention to Diab as a distinguished filmmaker who presents new cinema from a different perspective.

Clash participated in the Cannes Film Festival last year in the Un Certain Regard section and was highly praised not only by the panel members, but also by all festival guests who saw the film.

Hollywood megastar Tom Hanks praised the film and sent a letter of praise to Diab, describing the film as magnificent.

In 2017, Diab participated as a panel member for the Un Certain Regard section at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes Film Festival organizers cast Diab after the resounding success of his film Clash.

In 2017, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chose Diab to be a member of its governing body.
