EPCOT Transformation Continues at Walt Disney World


LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Walt Disney World’s EPCOT turns 40 in October, and over the past few years the theme park has undergone a transformation of epic proportions.

“The sketches and plans you see today are almost a starting point,” Walt Disney said more than 50 years ago. “[EPCOT] would always be in a state of becoming,” Disney said.

There are now four districts at EPCOT: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature and World Discover.

Discover the world is home to the newest attraction: the cosmic return of the Guardians of the Galaxy which replaces Ellen’s energy universe.

The attraction will be the first coaster at EPCOT, the first reverse launch for a Disney coaster, it is the longest fully enclosed coaster in the world housed in one of the largest show buildings ever constructed for a Disney theme park. In fact, four Spaceship Earths (aka the giant EPCOT golf ball) would fit inside. The Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster will open to the public on May 27

The Mission: Space pavilion now has the Space 220 restaurant which is out of this world.

Global celebration includes Spaceship Earth which transforms into the Beacon of Magic at night, nearby is the new Connections Café restaurant, including a Starbucks, and the new Creations store with all the swag fans could want, and Club Cool which allows customers to taste the flavors of Coca-Cola from around the world.

Global Showcase has the France pavilion expanded with Remy’s new Ratatouille adventure, “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along”, and the new late-night show, “Harmonious”, which is one of the greatest late-night shows ever created for a Disney theme park with a culturally diverse group of 240 singers from around the world.

nature of the world will present the next Journey of Water, inspired by Moana. The attraction will help visitors learn about protecting the natural water cycle in a fun and engaging way.

Starting this summer, Walt Disney World will launch Disney’s newest wearable device, MagicBand+, which will allow guests to embark on a scavenger hunt across all four parks, interact with golden character sculptures, live Star Wars adventures and experience nighttime spectacles in a new way as they watch their bands light up.
