St. Francis prepares cheerleaders to compete at Disney World

St. Francis Preparatory School has announced that two of its competitive Varsity cheerleader teams have been selected to compete in one of the nation’s most prestigious cheerleading competitions, the National High School Cheerleading Championship, produced by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA). UCA is a division of Varsity Spirit – the global leader in cheerleading apparel, dance teams and groups, camps and competitions, and a division of Varsity Brands, the market leader in team sports, school spirit and recognition of achievements.

The National High School Cheerleading Championship, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World® Resort from February 11-13, 2022, is the pinnacle of cheerleading competitions for high school cheerleaders across the country. All teams invited to participate in the championship qualified in a regional competition in 2021. Teams have been accredited in Safety and Leadership Training, approved by the National School Sports Federation (NFHS), as well as in the areas of crowd leadership, spirit education, ambassador, athletics and entertainment. Team members will travel as a team to Orlando, Florida to compete in the division they received an offer for in their regional competition. The teams will perform in an exclusive performance at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the HP Field House, Visa Athletic Center or AdventHealth Arena – the very first building dedicated to exclusively hosting events of joy and dance.

“We are thrilled to once again host safe, in-person events where teams from across the country can win the opportunity to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Championship,” said Bill Seely, President of Varsity Spirit. “These amazing athletes spend over 90% of their time focusing on building engagement in their schools, and they’ve learned to sail in new and innovative ways over the past eighteen months. We are thrilled to be able to produce a world class event where we can recognize and reward these amazing young people for their contribution to their schools and communities, their dedication and their talent. “

The National High School Cheerleader Championship was the first of its kind in 1980, created to reward cheerleaders for their work on the sidelines and to create a place where they could be recognized for their talents and abilities. This championship has been featured on ESPN since 1983 and Varsity Spirit is one of ESPN’s oldest collaborators. Varsity Spirit partnered with Walt Disney World® Resort in 1995 and has since created unforgettable National Championship experiences.

“The Varsity Cheerleading team have been working really hard, training and preparing to win an offer, over the past few months. I am very proud to have seen both competitive teams do just that, and now with the support of the school to make this trip to Orlando, Florida, the first in the history of our program, everyone is very excited to see what he can do at a national championship. competetion. By cheering on our football and basketball teams, as well as being featured at the Pep Rallies, they had the opportunity to show off their skills in front of a large crowd – their performance improved over time! We have a very large, diverse and talented team of people who have come together to achieve their goal of winning a national title. I am proud to know that they will attend this event proudly representing our school. Whatever the outcome in February, I think they will learn a lot from it and come home with not only a trophy, but valuable experiences and fun memories that will last them a lifetime, ”said Sal Fischetti, manager. sportsman of St. Francis. Preparatory School

“The overwhelming emotions that were felt, both by the athletes and the coaches, when not one, but two entries were won over the past month at the UCA regional competitions, were incredible. The combination of excitement, nervousness, and anticipation about what’s to come next month is finally setting in for these impatient teens. With our AD behind us and the support of the administration, we are able to see that long-standing goal achieved: to get to Disney as a team to compete on this renowned platform. Coaching for the school for a decade, I know how many other athletes have graduated dreaming of that chance; it’s also a personal dream of mine: to lead these hard-working athletes to the highest level of competition to show that anything is possible if you persevere and stay disciplined. It’s finally time and it’s surreal! These wonderful kids and my amazing co-trainers put blood, sweat and tears into this business and I couldn’t be prouder for the level of commitment shown! With many members of the freshman team on the mat, not to mention the emerging fight from COVID where high school athletes were severely limited, the adaptability of each is astounding. Whether we win, place or lose, I will consider this trip a great accomplishment as they mark the history of our program as the first team to venture outside our comfort zone and progress to a national ranking in this highly competitive sport. . “says Rosemarie Tombolo, Program Manager / Head Coach of the St. Francis Preparatory Cheerleader Team.
