As another year ends, we turn the chapter to 2022. What can Walt Disney World fans expect in the New Year? Here is a list of some new, returning, and departing experiences to prepare for.
The 50e The birthday continues

No surprises here! While Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary was on October 1, 2021, Disney has promised a full 18 months of celebrations, which means we can expect the party to continue until 2022, until April 2023. So if you haven’t planned your 50th anniversary vacation, you can still be part of all the action in 2022.
Disney Genie is here to stay

2022 will be the first full year with Disney Genie in place. The free Disney Genie service through the My Disney Experience app will continue to help visitors navigate and make the most of their day at the park. The Disney Genie + appears to be staying at $ 15 per person, as we’ve said goodbye to the old free FastPass system. And Lightning Lane pay-per-view attractions don’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
End of Disney’s Magical Express
Well, that’s not very exciting news for 2022. Free Disney transportation to and from Orlando International Airport and Disney World resorts ends on January 1, 2022. The demise of this huge guest benefit the Disney Resort is extremely disappointing. However, guests will be able to take advantage of a Mears transport offer… but it will cost resort guests.
Long-Renovation Everest Expedition
The popular roller coaster, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, located in the Asian part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be closed for a lengthy renovation. Mark your calendars as this attraction will be closed from January 4, 2022 until mid-April.

A new MagicBand is on the way in 2022. Disney has announced that MagicBand + will be available soon and will be interactive both in theme parks and beyond, including interaction with the Disney Fab 50 character sculptures located in all four parks. MagicBand + will also light up during fireworks and can be used in some park grounds such as Star wars: Edge of the galaxy.
Amazon and Disney collaboration

Another new technology is coming to Walt Disney World in 2022. Whether you are at home or in one of the hotel rooms at Walt Disney World Resort, you will soon be able to use an Echo device to interact with your favorite Disney, Pixar, or Star wars characters with a simple “Hey, Disney!” New technology offers more than a thousand magical interactions to discover.
Star wars: Galactic Cruiser
The highly anticipated Disney Star wars the hotel will open on March 1, 2022. The two-night trip with Star wars: Galactic Starcruiser will immerse guests in Star wars telling stories as guests experience an itinerary unlike any other. Get ready for a unique meal, lightsaber training, new Star wars characters, and much more.
guardians of the galaxy: Cosmic rewind
EPCOT is currently undergoing a transformation. We’ve seen EPCOT’s four new neighborhoods take shape and now we’re gearing up for the addition of roller coasters to the neighboring World Discovery. Disney announced guardians of the galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open its doors to guests in the summer of 2022.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios have missed a nighttime show since the park closed in March 2020 due to COVID. As we approach 2022, Disney has announced Fantasmic! will actually be back! While Disney has yet to say exactly when fan favorite entertainment will return, we think this one was worth the wait.
Festival of Fantasy & Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire
RELATED: NEW Cavalcade Magic Kingdom to feature the most characters of any Cavalcade
Two Magic Kingdom entertainment experiences are returning to the park in 2022! Festival of Fantasy is the iconic parade that fills the park with stunning floats and characters while wowing guests. Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire is a lovely stage show that takes place in front of Cinderella’s Castle and offers the chance to see characters dance and perform in a storytelling experience. Both will return in 2022 with no confirmed start date yet.
The world of Nemo: The Big Blue… and beyond!
The world of Nemo: The musical has been closed since the COVID closures. Since then, the theater has remained silent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney recently announced, however, that The world of Nemo will actually come back with a new story titled The world of Nemo: The Big Blue… and beyond! While we know 2022 is confirmed, Disney has yet to set a start date for the new stage show.
Connections Café and Restaurant
A new restaurant is on its way to EPCOT in 2022! Disney has announced that a new quick-service restaurant called Connections Cafe and Eatery will be arriving in EPCOT’s World Celebration district. Menu and pricing details have yet to be revealed, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on what to expect from this new restaurant.
The above experiences have been confirmed by Disney to arrive at Walt Disney World in 2022. Other experiences that we really hope to happen in 2022 include the much anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run roller coaster currently under construction in the Tomorrowland portion of Magic Kingdom. . Along with the opening of TRON, we also hope to see the return of the Walt Disney World Railroad, as its lengthy renovation was caused by the construction of TRON. We also closely follow Journey of Water, inspired by Moana. The experiment still has a lot of uncertainty surrounding it, but as we’ve seen construction underway, we’re keeping our fingers crossed the attraction will open in 2022.
What do you hope to experience at Walt Disney World Resort in 2022? Our personal hope … we hear about the return of the Hoop Dee Doo Music Review!
